COACHELLA 2009

Day 2 of Coachella
Saturday, April 18, 2009

I am not here to post any blogs about the bands at Coachella.
I think theres thousands others to give their recaps on all
the beautiful music being played all 3 days. I am just here to
show you what I experienced at Coachella. Enjoy!

I started off at 8am and made it up to La Quinta to where
my buddies were staying. Beautiful gated community set
on the golf course. I wish I could show pics of this private
residence, but out of respect of the family, I won't post any.
Maybe just one, of their backyard overlooking the golf course!

The 45 minute hike thru a dusty road from the farthest
parking spot ever to the front entrance of the venue!

Where am I going? No wait, where am I? Ahh hell,
screw this, I'm just going to go wherever these all
access wristbands will get us!

It's about 100 degrees out. Everyone is stealing as much
shade wherever they can. The VIP area was so crowded
it wasn't even worth trying to share the shade. So we just
kept on walking around to mingle with the crowd.

Aww! Finally! Refreshments!

Lots of Arts and Crafts and arsty crafty people!

Everyone just going where all the water was being splashed
around to keep kool!

Everwhere you go, there were just crowds and crowds of people!

And of course there were all the freaky looking people!
This guy really creeped me out. This couple played out the
vintage 20's - 30's theme, but way too extreme. This piano
was built on a bicycle that rode sideways. I dont think this
couple has even showered or changed clothes in over 2 weeks.

What bothered me more, was they had this wooden
vintage 20's or 30's carriage that actually had a 2-3
yr old asleep under the 100 degree sun. Vintage is
one thing, but to make your kids suffer thru the heat
like this, is just pure stupidity.

I love art! Check out this crazy hand painted golf cart!

Hand painted mannequins!

View of the crowd before Travis and DJ AM take the stage!
This is where I would have tons of pics and vids of Travis and DJ AM
but thanks to low bandwidth and the probability of my iphone
camera locking up is likely to happen and guess what, it did!
arrrrrgh!!

More artsy stuff. this little oriental setup was very interesting.

The VIP bar just seems to be the place to be!
So much alcohol! Where do I start! Oh I know,
water! and lots of it!

Can't miss out on some perfect Thai Chicken in the VIP!

Or how about some perfectly grilled burgers? mmmm!

Bloggers galore in the VIP Press tent posting away all
their Coachella stories and pics!

Blog blog blog . . .

The view from behind the Main Stage. Its kind of like
standing behind a mirror to see what goes on behind it.
Alot of nothing to be honest! Just alot of people wondering
how do they get to watch from the stage!

Everywhere you go there were just thousands of people everywhere!

and when you turned around, there were thousands more!

There's the creepy guy again!

At least creepy guy seems to be entertaining the crowd.

The best part is that people seem to enjoy the creepiness!

Lots more artsy stuff!

Lots of arsty - fiery metal dragons!

Gotta love KROQ!!

The crowd is anxiously waiting for the Killers to come on the stage!

Abcde's First Easter Egg Hunt. Newport Beach.

Got home from work, freshened up and out the door with the family to take Abcde to her first Easter Egg Hunt in Newport Beach. Drove to the park that had the signs up, only to find out, the sign was promoting the Egg Hunt at another park! Drove down to the other park only to find 2 huge lines of cars fighting to get int the entrance.

After 30 minutes of inching our way in and driving almost 3 blocks away to find a parking spot, we made our way back to the park and find a really cool setup with several bounce houses, huge slides numerous tents with activities for kids, lots of food booths etc.

Time for the little kids to setup around the roped area and rush for the thousands of eggs. there were probably couple hundred kids between 2-3 with their parents and siblings all crowding the ropes with anxiety. The countdown starts. 3 .. 2.. 1 and the rush begins. Now it's complete mayhem and Abcde is ready to grab her eggs.

Of course because of greedy, rude, unthoughtful and just plain dumbass parents, all the kids are lost on what to do because all the adults are too busy yelling and pushing to make sure their little "precious rugrats" gets first dibs on the "good eggs". One lady in front of me not only moves her way to block Abcde from getting any eggs, but her obnoxious mother pushes the Eggs in front of Abcde towards her grandson so he gets all the eggs. WTF?

So to be fair, I pushed all the eggs back!
Good times!

We're done. Time to go home!!

OC's Marketing Masterminds - OC Metro

Check out the April Edition of OC METRO

Marketing Masterminds, continued ...

Ed Lee and Ed Santos are the creative minds behind the Wahoo's Then – Now – Forever campaign, featuring restaurant regulars who span the ages. Each ad evokes a cool, urban vibe with the use of color and black-and-white images. It’s just as fun to see the old-timers as it is the newcomers.

• Ed Lee
Wahoo’s Fish Taco co-founder and forward planner

WHAT YOU LIKE MOST ABOUT WAHOO’S FISH TACO’S THE THEN – NOW – FOREVER CAMPAIGN: I really like that the campaign was a reflection of our 20-year milestone. Looking back, Wahoo’s loyalty to quality food at a good value has remained the core concept. It is this concept that has helped us to connect with the community and keep die-hard customers. The Then – Now – Forever campaign was just a way to thank our customers for two decades of fun.

WHAT YOU LIKE MOST ABOUT YOUR JOB: Every day is different. In my current role as future planner, I have the opportunity to work on a number of aspects of the company: marketing, the remodeling of a restaurant, fundraisers, visiting restaurants, etc. I also like that Wahoo’s is still immersed in the surf industry. It’s not all about the restaurant; we get to be a part of some really cool surfing and other action sport events, where I basically get to hang out with my friends.

FAVORITE TV COMMERCIAL AND WHY: I love the Corona commercials, especially a recent one where a cell phone loses battery power. Corona has done such a great job of marketing the idea of escaping and relaxing. They don’t have to say anything, and people just get it.

FUNNIEST JOKE YOU KNOW (but keep it clean): I think the funniest joke is when someone asks you if you know any good jokes and you just turn and say no. The look on their face is classic!

• Ed Santos
Wahoo’s Fish Taco marketing director

WHAT YOU LIKE MOST ABOUT THE THEN – NOW – FOREVER CAMPAIGN: It shows real Wahoo’s customers sharing their real lives. It also reflects the realness and simplicity of the food. It was only natural to include real customers in the campaign; they helped Wahoo’s achieve the success it enjoys today.

WHAT YOU LIKE MOST ABOUT YOUR JOB: I have the freedom to create good things, things that I am proud of.

FAVORITE TV COMMERCIAL AND WHY: The Geico Caveman commercial. It’s so stupid, it’s funny.

FUNNIEST JOKE YOU KNOW (but keep it clean): Everyone tells me, “Hey, it’s the ’80s,” and “The mullet is back.” I just say, “Really, when did it leave? Where did it go?”
