Good Morning Austin! Beautiful day to be in Texas!
Great view from my room. In a few hours, these streets will be filled with a couple hundred thousand people!
Great short set from Jason Lytle band.
Wing setting up the burritos for the hungry folks.
What are we serving today, Wing?
This is rad! I walk out my hotel room, and who is on the front cover of the SXSWORLD magazine, in front of every hotel room in Austin, TX, the raddest upcoming artist from Atlanta, GA, Janelle Monae!
Here she is being interviewed by John Norris of MTV. I wish I had my magazine with me for an autograph. =(
Nevermind. I got something much better! Thanks Janae!
Wing and Jordan (Wahoo's Austin, TX) talking shop.
Time to head back out and watch a few more bands at the different venues on the way back to our hotel.
Being stopped from one cute girl after another handing out promotional shwag and cd samples from all the big labels!
Can't forget the lines at the many roach coaches selling Pizza, Hot Dogs, Bratwurst . . .
. . . and you can't forget CUPCAKES! how can you not buy a cupcake off the streets!
Finally made it to STUBBS. Another crazy mess of people trying to get in. But we found our way upstairs with a perfect view to finish the last set of the BLACK LIPS.
While that was going on, I walked inside the VIP area and CUT OFF YOUR HANDS was going off! The bar was packed. The girls were dancing and I found a table to setup and keep blogging away! My job never ends.
Of course, Wing was more concentrated on the game!
. . . and yes, if anyone is wondering, I AM STILL WORKING! Getting all my ads in before deadline, emails and artwork all while 2,300 other party people are are getting drunk around me! Thanks.
What is Wing doing? What else, getting some more free shwag from Havianas!
and meeting new and old friends.
What I have been waiting for all day! ECHO AND THE BUNNYMEN!
Walking back to my room, had to take pics of the street scenery!
. . . and the endless number of roach coaches parked in every available spot!
Can't forget all the band promotions all over the place!
Headed back out to to dinner with the very cool Spin Magazine people. Gotta love all the fun people out in the streets!
The walk back, seemed like the population tripled! Everyone is definitely out tonite! You can hear all the music in the background at every venue we walked by. Band after band after band after band!
Weaving in and out of the swarm of people, we arrive back at STUBBS to check out the GUITAR HERO - METALLICA show thanks to Spin magazine for the laminates and VIP passes to get us pass the long out of control lines of people.
Sercurity was really cool with us and just let us all walk in, while hundreds others were still waiting oustide for hours.
Holy Cow! I thought the lines outside were bad!! The beer lines were even worse!!
!!!!!!!! METALLICA ROCKS !!!!!!! Sorry the sound quality is horrible. It was extremely loud and hardcore! All videos were shot directly off my iphones. Thanks to 12Seconds.tv, Qik and Flixwagon.
Awesome way to end the night! What? Red Bull after party with Shwayze?? Ok, here we go. . . 1am to 6am After Party! Too bad the batteries on my iphone and G1 are dying and I wasn't able to take any more pics!
Had a filling breakfast courtesy of the Hilton Garden Hotel and walked down to the Convention Center to pick up our credentials and laminates. From there straight down 6th street to the Pecan Street Cafe Where Spin Magazine and Myspace was hosting their private VIP event.
On the way we passed a huge crowd of over 1900 people waiting in a very unorganized mass. Didn't realize this mess wrapped all the way around the building and down another 2 blocks.
Never found out who everyone was waiting to see. But a massive fight broke out and the crowd just egged the fight to keep going, until the cops showed up. Gotta love Austin, TX!
Cops showed and everyone just kept doing their thing. Oh well, time to keep walking to our destination.
Gary and Jourdan of Wahoo's Austin showed up in their customized Taco Truck getting ready to setup for the Spin / Myspace party. Wing Lam, co-founder of Wahoo's poses with Gary.
Hosting interviews with bands was the legendary John Norris of MTV. Free shwag everywhere. Myspace was giving away cool MS logo'd covers for your iphones, CK had tons of free bottle samples. Airwalk gave away cooll shoes and flip flops. Flip phones to record video and you just plug right into your laptop, sweet! not to mention all the free flowing drinks all day!
Of course Wahoo's was there serving up Veggie Banzai Burritos, Grilled Fish Burritos, Baja rolls, and veggie platters! mmm mmmm good!
Can't forget the hot Flip Phone girls with Wing Lam and the custom Wahoo's Vans thanks to Steve Vandoren, size 66!
Yes, I had to show off as well. shhh.
During a quick break, John Norris posed to show off his hot new Rock Da Mullet sticker to put on his car! Yah, John, you rock!
Its the rad, the crazy, the HOT HOT HOT Miss Lindsay Tredent of Myspace Music ! What makes her so hot? click the video above and find out!
Tori Amos even showed up to do a quick interview with John Norris!
James Iha from Smashing Pumpkins with his new band, Tinted Windows.
The streets outside were packed once again and music was playing loud and live in all the bars and venues! colorful people were everywhere!
Gotta love the free bags of shwag at these bitchin tradeshows!
Yes, even Dreadlock and Crocs with their huge pups were out for musical enjoyment!
Great dinner at the Parkside restaurant, thank you to Spin Magazine . Off into the night to rock the crowds, once again!
No clue who they were, all I know was I got a great spot in the back, free booze and alot of fun people to hang with. I love Austin, TX!
Got into the office at 9am. Banged out some work before heading down to San Diego by 11am. Yes, we are flying out of SD. Why? I don't ask questions anymore. All I know, is, that's what it is. Quick stop off at Wahoo's in Pt. Loma for a quick bite to eat. Grilled chicken bowl, all rice, no beans and washed down with an iced tea. Tal O'Farrell, owner of Wahoo's Pt Loma and co-founder of Sector 9 skateboards, was kind enough to drop us off at the airport.
WOW! First time in six years that the metal detector did not beep me and I did not have to go thru the routine torture of being swapped by the hand wand for any hidden weapons or foreign objects! I am impressed with this airport! Today is definitely going to be a good day!
Wing Lam and I just chilling at the San Diego Airport waiting for our flight.
Finally on the plane. It's a packed flight to Austin, TX. But on a Wednesday?? Fully booked flights don't bug me. But people who talk out loud and knowing it annoys everyone else on the plane and continue talking out loud with useless nonsense, that bugs me. I could go on about her, but that would make me the annoying person, so I'll stop there.
Yes, even on the plane, I am still working. But with only 67% battery life left. That didn't last very long. Just enough to complete 2 more Wahoo's ads plus answer several emails and proposals then send off when I can plug in to wi fi.
Lunchtime! I would take a pic of the peanuts but I ate them.
After being picked up at the airport by the Red Bull limo with Jourdan Adler, owner of Wahoo's in Austin, TX, we are finally settled in at the Hilton Gardens in Austin, TX. Of course, I have to setup my work station so I can get charge all my iphones, my G1, and my Boostmobile phone, plus the Macbook and all other accessories before starting the night at SXSW.
Here we go! Walking down 6th Street into the SXSW mess of bars, clubs and restaurants.
Rock Da Mullet spotted by an Austin local and club promoter! Yes, free hookups to the club and drinks! Not bad so far!
One of the clubs was sponsored by Monster. Lots of beats. Lots of people having fun, dancing and lots of free booze to go! Monster and Vodka mixes can never be wrong!
Gotta take a pic with all the freaks in the streets!
Lines, lines, lines galore out the door at each and every club and venue. It is ridiculously insane and it's only Wednesday! Crowds expected to quadruple in the next few days!
I don't know what has the most lines, the bars or the hot dog and bratwurst stands on every single corner you turn. At least, I know I won't starve out here!
More lines at the bars . . .
More lines at the Hot Dog stands . . .
Best of all, more local fans of Rock Da Mullet. Meet Haley and her friend, who was hooked up with Warped Tour VIP passes last year!
